“In this world, there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism. And one who has achieved this enjoys the self within himself in due course of time.”
Following the message by a few intellectuals and social activists of Sivasagar through their generous donation and enthusiastic commitment, Bir lachit Borphukan College was established at Darikapar , near D.T.O.’s Office , Sivasagar, in 1981. The college was shifted to the present location at Namtial Pather by the side of NH – 37 (just behind the District Jail, Sivasagar and Sivasagar Tank). It has contributed significantly to the academic and cultural life of the area, and has marched a long way since then to withstand the test of time.
With a heritage of selfless service and benevolent efforts of Late Ananda Gogoi , Late Suresh Phukan , Sri Rati Kanta Bora , Sri Atul Phukan , Late Thanu Barua , Sri Nagendra Nath Gohain , Late Debanga Buragohain , Sri Pranab Gogoi (Ex-Speaker of Assam State Assembly) , Sri Phani Chetia , Sri Munin Ch. Gogoi (Ex-Principal , TGM H.S. School) , Late Dr. Munin Borgohain (Ex-Principal , Sivasagar Girls’ College) , Sri Manuranjan Chutia ,Sri Nabin Chandra Gogoi , Late Lok Nath Bordoloi,
Mrs. Tiluttama Chetia , Late Kamini Kanta Gogoi , Sri Sirish Bhattacharya , Sri Tankeswar Borah and a few others , the college has been able to attain the present position. Special mention must be made of Miss Pratima Gohain , a founder teacher and Ex-principal of the college along with the existing staff who has made their untiring services till date. It was only in 2013 , the Assam State Government has provincialized the college and gave a final relief of financial strain to a few. The present day college has an infrastructure built on a sprawling area of about 5.5 acre . A full fledged Internal Quality Assurance Cell has also been established in 2014 to look after the internal quality of the institution. The RTI Cell , Career Guidance Cell and Anti-ragging Squad of the college has been operative since 2015.
